knit de knit

It has been a few years since I have knitted anything, sometimes I think I've forgotten how but I'm sure if I pick up my knitting needles and start my hands would remember soon enough. This weekend my roommate and I were walking around the neighborhood and she suggested we find a knitting store so she could start on a little project. Which was more than fine with me, I really love knitting, quilting, and fabric stores. My mom used to always take me to quilting stores when I was younger because she was an avid quilter and I used to get so mesmerized by the huge array of fabrics and all the bright, striking colors and patterns. It really is a feast for the eyes. Looks like I still get that way. This little knitting store was such a cute little find. When I get home I am definitely going to start a new sewing project of some type.

GET IT?!?! Cute right? A good ol' genuine fish n' chips place in the heart of Greenwich Village.

and just like that two months has come and gone

Wow. Wowowowowowow. Today was the first day of my last week at my internship with Saks for the summer. Which means on Saturday I have a flight home. It's so crazy how quickly this summer has come and gone, which I knew would happen, but still. I have learned so much this summer and more importantly I think, I have grown so much this summer. I came to New York City this summer a wide eyed innocent girl from the Midwest, and I think that I will leave the city feeling somewhat of a cultured NYC citizen.

I thought that being a buyer and living in this city was exactly what I had wanted for my entire life, but this summer has changed my perspective on things, and pretty much turned my life upside down. I don't know what I want. I don't know what I want to do. I don't know where I want to live. I don't even know who I want to be. It's kind of like I'm starting out at square one again, trying to figure myself out. And that part of this summer has been very frustrating. But also, if I had never had this experience I would still be sitting in Wisconsin thinking that NYC holds the key to making all of my dreams come true, but I'm not so sure that's the case anymore. I'm just grateful that I have one whole year left to figure that out before I am going to be forced into the real-world and forced to make grown-up decisions for myself. I don't know where I'll end up a year from now, if it will be in this city, in San Francisco (another lifelong dream of mine), in Madison, or in some other city I'd never imagine.

I guess only time will tell.

giles & brother

A jewelry line I am very fond of is Giles & Brother. All of their pieces are edgy, yet still totally socially acceptable and wearable, unlike some other "edgy" jewelry lines I have seen. I love that they incorporate unexpected materials into their pieces, like their railroad spike bracelets (which I am obsessed with) and lots and lots of chains. Some of their necklaces and bracelets are dripping in chains.

Shop here.

new title, new layout

starting semi-fresh. and what better title for a fashion inspired blog than no boys allowed? i think i'm sooo clever. i'm also incredibly tired and it's midnight and i'll probably wake up tomorrow and go what was I thinking?? but for now, i just think i'm being cute.

headgear

I'm a big fan of headbands. It started last summer when I watched the first two seasons of Gossip Girl and became enamored with Blair Waldorf's headbands. I've since stocked up on loads and loads of 'em, but lately I'm growing sick of the preppy, girly, Blair-like ones and wanting something different. Something more edgy/bohemian. Something more like these lovelies.

i missed this, what! how?!?!

My favorite celebrity since high school. She is the prettiest and in my opinion one of the most stylish celebs out there. I can't believe I never saw this editorial when it first came out last month! I love how sassy these pics are, Jessica Alba once again proves you can be cute and sexy all at the same time.

This is an editorial for the Genlux June 2010 issue. Find more pics right here!

Restoration Hardware

I love pretty homes just as much as pretty clothes. I would talk about it more, but I'm not at a point in my life where I can even start to think about creating a pretty home. Not until I have a place I will live for at least 3 years will I invest in decorating it with anything high quality or remotely expensive. But I couldn't resist stopping into Restoration Hardware today. I passed it, walked a block, paused, and turned right back around and went inside.

It is simply amazing; straight out of a catalog. Everything is perfectly merchandised, and while it's expensive you can tell that you will get what you pay for: the highest quality furniture and houseware out there. I wandered around, looking every bit out of place and obviously not about to buy anything. But I enjoyed admiring! There was a vintage dress form I couldn't stop staring at, a telescope that would look amazing in the study of a penthouse apartment, and so much incredible wooden furniture. I fell in love with a giant $4000 mirror that had the coolest, more intricate wooden border. There was also a table full of all different sized, but still gigantic, candles. A display I would like to try and recreate in my apartment in the fall (with cheap candles, of course)

If you want to check out the website for the store you can do that: here, here!

hometown usa

This past weekend I took a spur of the moment trip back home. So spur of the moment I only bought a ticket a day before I left! I was browsing flights and I happened to find a relatively inexpensive flight and it had ONE seat left BOTH ways, I decided it was fate and bought the ticket. It was the best money I've spent yet in this city! It was great to escape the fast pace of the city and walk down the street without having to worry about being ran into constantly. I was only home for 2 days so the time flew by. I got to spend some time with my family, eat some real home cooked meals and see my friends! It's so weird, I had been gone for a month yet when I got back to Madison it feels like I had just been there yesterday. But I guess that's what happens when you live in a city for 21 years; one month IS just a day when you think about it that way. I didn't take any pictures besides these at home in my backyard. I love my backyard so much and it was so perfectly sunny that day!

.

I'm wearing my favorite hat again! It gets comments every time I wear it, and the necklace that my roommate got me for my birthday, which is a real life watch that actually tells time, so convenient for me because I still don't have a watch! And I'm wearing the new shoes I bought with my "it's your birthday get 15% off your purchase!" card from Anthropologie. They are so comfy and the perfect heel height to wear all day! I love how unique Anthro's shoes always are.
